As with any job hunt, your resume is any employer’s first impression of you, so make it good. Include your TESOL qualification and any experience you have had in the teaching area, however meagre.
For first time teachers; if you get any chance to do some voluntary teaching or assistant teaching before you start applying for paid work overseas you will have a much more attractive resume.
Do your research and remember that you are shopping around for a good employer as well as being interviewed on your skills. There are many job ads online for places where teachers are in demand, mainly Asia, but for other locations you may have to be more proactive and contact English schools in the area.

www.jobsabroadbulletin.co.uk This travel jobsite is aimed at Brits, but it has many ads for teaching in all sorts of locations which Aussies can apply to.
www.globalteacher.com.au Australian site which has global job listings for anyone who is qualified.
www.eslbase.com Good all round ESL information and job opportunities globally and course information for Australian providers.
www.TEFLcorp.com Another all round ESL side with international job listings.
www.englishfirst.com A large education provider (One of the largest recruiters for English schools in Indonesia) which has information on how to apply for work with them on their website.
www.eslcafe.com Dave Sperling’s famous ESL Cafe is a staple in any ESL teacher’s online diet. A good resource for everything ESL, including a long list of jobs.
www.esl-guide.com This is a very useful starting point for job hunting. It is a US site but it lists English schools by location so you can choose where you want to go and then access contact details for schools in that area.
These sites list jobs around the world as well as career advice, courses and class plans.
Like most jobs the best bet is to be qualified, confident and proactive when searching for work. The market is a little thinner thanks to recent drama but there is still high demand in Asian countries and parts of South America. With a bit of time and research getting a job should be easy enough!
