Luggage Limits

Vintage Luggage LimitsWondering how much luggage you can take on your flight out of Australia but can’t seem to find the fine print from the airline?

Have a look at Luggage Limits (luggagelimits.com).  It’s a site that gives details for both your hand luggage and checked in bag limits for over 100 major airlines and 3000 airports.  All you have to do is choose the airline, departure and arrival points and presto; all the information you need is at hand.

You will also get the luggage dimensions allowed and the cost of any excess baggage you may have.  It’s a well thought out site; it will even give you different baggage limits according to any extra entitlements through your frequent flyers.

As a very general rule for Aussies flying into Europe, limits are around 20-25kg per person, less for budget airlines.

Coming home from America the limits are usually higher.

For budget airlines taking bulky items like surfboards or golf clubs will cost you; it’s usually cheaper  to pre pay for these type of items when you book online rather than at the airport.  On the major airlines it pays to get there early and be polite if you plan to take something like a kayak or drum set.

It can be a hit and miss affair when you check in; the mood of the check in clerk and the amount of people on the plane might affect what you can get away with.  Turning up late with a suitcase full of bowling balls might will be costly; just try and arrive early and choose an a clerk that looks in a decent mood.

A trick like sticking your foot under one end of the bag while it’s being weighed may or may not work..better to just try and stay under the limits..
