See the world by freighter
Seeing the world on a freighter might conjure up images of stowing away next to the engine room on some dodgy West African barge. Yet the reality is that travelling by freighter is actually a pretty cruisey, expensive and usually comfortable way to get around the world.
It’s a slow journey, so if you have time and patience it might be an alternative for those who hate flying and might want to go back a time when travelling this way was more the norm. You usually won’t have to work as the price of your stay on board will more than cover your passage.
There will be limited numbers of passengers on board (usually no more than a dozen) and these trips are popular with the retired crowd.
The cost might surprise; you will be looking at approx. $130AUD per day. This will get you a decent room with a fridge, TV and DVD.
