By any other means. Transport options around the globe
So you’re out in the middle of nowhere, it could be Southern Ethiopia or outback Australia. You marvel at your adventurous spirit and there’s nobody for miles. Sweet. But what’s that sound in the distance? Why it’s Gunter from Germany who’s decided to use a pogo stick to traverse his way from Cairo to Capetown; “just because”. There’s always somebody trave
lling tougher and for longer than you.
While the pogo stick example might seem farfetched, if you travel for long enough you will most likely encounter people making their way across the globe by any means at hand. Most commonly this will be people cycling their way through a region or country. The adventurous spirit of these souls is to be admired, perhaps sometimes at a safe distance.
Cyclists will tell you all about the virtues of two wheels over four, and there is certainly much to be said about the pluses of this type of travel. The fresh air, interaction with locals, no carbon footprint and total freedom are some of the big ticks. Doing this from Los Angeles to Santiago might not be for everybody but for shorter trips and as part of your bigger plans it can be a great way to explore.
